J'Quo Dance Company
Our Mission Statement
Our mission at J’Quo Dance Company is to increase self-confidence through dance. Furthermore, J’Quo is adamant about promoting unity amongst the student body and community. We also aim to foster creativity, elevate school spirit, and assist those students who do not actively participate in sports or any extracurricular activity by performing on the dance team. The company works to coordinate student activities through different schools in the community— organizing annual events, like Pep Rallies and Homecoming, making them more entertaining and enjoyable. We will eventually bring together different age groups that range from toddlers to senior citizens in the community.
About J'Quo
J'Quo's History
Due to Janelle's personal confidence issues, she never enjoyed sports for several reasons; so she always tried to figure out an alternative for an extracurricular activity that she would enjoy. She indeed found it on the dance team at Jessie Ripoll Primary School in Kingston, Jamaica. It gave her life, literally- and she ended up in a different world whenever she learned a move and mixed it with music especially if it was anything energetic. She only had true confidence while dancing so she knew dancing would increase your confidence with or without having a dance background. It increased hers which is why she chose it to be the mission of this dance company.
Dancing with J.D.C, you will have an improved condition of your heart and lungs, increased muscular strength, endurance, motor fitness, increased aerobic fitness, improved muscle tone and strength, not to mention an increase in your self-confidence.

We are open to anyone willing and interested to learn different genre of dances or need extra lessons to keep the body moving and creativity fresh and flowing. Different genres that will included but not limited to: African, Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Hip-Hop, RnB, Theatrics, Folk, Contemporary and Jazz.
J.D.C is a Traditional, active and creative Lifestyle Studio which is an alternative to hitting the gym. Janelle is also Zumba Certified so she will mix it up and dance-it-out with you. You will eventually forget we're exercising.
This company will be an outlet for individuals who need to take their minds off things or release any stressors, or to just simply live in the moment and enjoy everything dancing has to offer; festivity and prosperity.
Beginning my Freshman year at Hartford Public High School - Freshman Academy and experiencing their "yearly pep rally" it didn't intrigue me at all and I wasn't looking forward to the next. It was evident that other students felt the same due to people up and leaving or making side negative comments. Jokingly, with an old friend we decided to start a dance team to hopefully perform at the next pep rally. With the assistance of a few faculty members that were excited at the fact that students wanted to engage more into school activities they allowed us to perform at HPHS pep rally 2013. During that time span I posted flyers around the school and it was mostly Jamaicans who were interested. There was always an issue with either finding a faculty to stay due to nonpayment or we didn’t valid space to practice.
In 2013 this 3 webbed friends basically took over the team and tried to take over the group and run it how they wanted. So little by little everyone started to drop out of the dance team. The following year I recruited more people and a total of 6 girls performed. The dance team continued performing at HPHS until 2017. Majoring in Communications have now allowed me to be able to edit and create my dance mixes without relying on someone else. After graduating from HPHS the principal for Law and Government academy offered me a job to come back and still work with the girls whom were still interested but she ended up leaving the school so again more issues from there. But despite the hardship that my team and I went through as the years progress we continued to thrive as a team.
Although we lost dancers we also continue to gain a tremendous amount of great dancers that’s been with the J’Quo Dance Company for years.
SHOUTOUT TO MY OG GIRLS - I truly love and appreciate each and everyone of you.
This is why I started the process of opening my own dance studio so it may be an ongoing activity for myself and whoever that is interested.
